DUMPING waste has landed four Oldhamers in a financial mess.
Oldham Council instigated prosecutions against the residents for flytipping bags of waste in alleyways behind their homes.
The offenders were all successfully prosecuted at Tameside Magistrates' Court for illegally dumping waste in different areas across the borough in recent months.
Joanne Hall (42), of Mersey Road North, admitted to illegally dumping waste on March 16 and was issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice which she failed to pay. She was found guilty in her absence and fined £220 with £400 costs and a £30 victim surcharge
Gabrielle Bevis (23), of Honeywell Lane, was issued with a fine after bags of waste were found in an alley on May 2. He didn't pay the Fixed Penalty Notice and was found guilty and ordered to pay £220 with £431 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.
Bodique Moran (34) of Dean Street, Failsworth, was issued with a fine after admitting to dumping waste in an alley on February 16. She failed to pay a fine issued at the time and failed to attend court. She was found guilty in her absence and fined £220 with £429 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.
Lenaka Mitacova (29), of Belgrave Road, was issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice after she admitted placing waste in the alleyway on April 24. She didn't pay the fine and pleaded guilty in court and was fined £20 with £456 costs, plus a £30 victim surcharge.
Councillor Cath Ball, deputy cabinet member for neighbourhoods and co-operatives, said: "This kind of behaviour is simply not acceptable and we have a zero tolerance approach to it.
"Thankfully the vast majority of residents don't commit these offences but the selfish few that do will be caught and will be brought to justice. We need residents to continue to work with us on this. If you see anyone dumping waste, please report it to us and we will investigate."
