Blue plaque plan
Date published: 02 July 2008
Saddleworth Civic Trust is introducing an additional local blue plaque scheme for the area.
Its spring newsletter says: “We have all seen the English Heritage blue plaques. They commemorate the national significance of the lives and achievements of people who lived or worked at that site.
“The committee has now decided to introduce a local scheme of blue plaques for our area, separate from that of English Heritage.
“We were thinking that maybe we should not restrict ourselves to honouring people but should highlight the original significance of the buildings themselves or their use in our industrial heritage.”
Trust members are invited to air their views on the scheme to Amanda Thomas at amanda@thomasamanda.wanadoo.co.uk or at 36 Longcroft Street, Golcar.
