WE’VE done it . . . (from the left) Dan, Alex, Jonathan, Vicky, Andrea, Chris and Neil at the top of Snowdon to complete the challenge
FOUR people from Royton were among a group which completed the arduous Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for two cancer hospices.
Dan Tupman, from Royton, works supervisor at Garvin Print, Shaw Road, organised the trip in memory of his late father Jack.
To complete the challenge, walkers have to scale each of the peaks — Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in the Lake District and Snowdon in North Wales — in 24 hours, including travel between the three countries.
Dan said: “We did it with minutes to spare. It took us 23 hours, 42 minutes and 13 seconds and that included an hour detour for diesel because of the fuel blockades.”
Accompanying Dan were Chris Denton, Alex Fleet and Neil Dickinson, all from Royton; Vicky Currie, from Didsbury; and Andrea Johnson and Jonathan Gallagher, from Knutsford.
They were supported by driver John Taylor, also from Royton.
Funds were raised for Springhill Hospice, Rochdale, which looked after Jack Tupman, and Neil Dickinson also raised funds for Dr. Kershaw’s Hospice, Royton, which nursed his grandmother.
Donations can be made online at www.justgiving.com/jacktupman or to Dr Kershaw’s Hospice.
