GOING green has enabled a Crompton School to fly the flag for the environment.
Crompton Primary has achieved Green-Flag status as an eco-school thanks to the efforts of children, parents, governors and staff.
The latest achievement came after Crompton already achieved bronze and silver status and the list of activities achieved for the new honour is impressive.
Crompton had to form an action team made up of pupils, parents and governors and members had to resolve an action plan, including timescales and targets and then share the plan with the whole school.
Pupils needed to obtain evidence of progress in matters such as recycling and reductions in water and electricity usage.
They also had to develop the school grounds, including creating a school garden to grow their own vegetables, and producing an eco-code.
Head teacher Martin Moore said: “We have all enjoyed working towards green-flag status. The children now understand a lot more about the environment and are keen to recycle as much as possible.
Clare White, a governor and a member of the school eco-team, said: “It has been a joy to watch the children working in the garden and improving the school grounds.”
Bethany Crowder, a Year 6 pupil, added: “The school garden is great. We now grow our own vegetables and even have an eco-club that meets on Monday night.”
