People’s plane flies

A Vulcan bomber built at the former Avro factory in Chadderton in 1960 has finally been granted its permit to fly after a £7 million restoration lasting three years.
It will take off from its original home at RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire, for this weekend’s international air show.
The Cold War craft passed its inspection by officials from the Civil Aviation Authority yesterday.
Engineers have worked to restore the bomber since 2005 at cost of £7 million. More than half of the funding has come from public donations, leading to it being called the “people’s aeroplane”.
