Car-jackers await sentence
Date published: 04 July 2008
A MOTORIST in Chadderton was pistol-whipped when a car-jacking gang demanded his car.
Lance Antonio Jones (20), of Hulme; Kyle Weilding (18), of Old Trafford; Kieran Proverbs-Brown (19), of Hulme; and a 16-year-old boy who cannot be named for legal reasons were yesterday convicted at Minshull Street Crown Court, Manchester, of conspiracy to rob and of possessing an imitation firearm.
Jones, Proverbs-Brown and the boy were also found guilty of possessing a shotgun.
Between July 21, 2006, and August 15, 2007, the gang were involved in a spate of car robberies.
Proverbs-Brown is currently serving an indeterminate sentence for public protection after he was convicted of conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.
Det Insp Bob Tonge of Trafford CID said: “The members of this gang are dangerous criminals.
“The way in which these robberies were carried out shows their persistence and calculated determination to get their hands on other people’s property, causing maximum fear as they did so.”
The gang will be sentenced during the week beginning July 14.
