A FORMER Hathershaw mill could soon be transformed into an exciting new media centre.
Plans have been submitted to transform the Earl Mill in Dowry Street into a base for Channel O Media, an internet-based TV station for Oldham, broadcasting its own programmes.
It will show short programmes and adverts as well as public information bulletins from the council and emergency services and music videos.
It is hoped that Channel O will create a positive new image for Oldham and provide jobs for local people.
Plans are also in place for a youth drama looking into the cultural divide in the North, written by Steve Brady who has also worked on “Silent Witness”, “Murphy’s Law” and “The Cops”.
In the long-term, it is hoped that Channel O can build a bank of talented local youngsters.
Oldham Council’s planning committee will debate the application and decide whether to grant permission at next month’s meeting.
