Latics seek beer-tasters

IT’S a tough job, but someone’s got to do it — beer-tasters are urgently needed to choose a Latics ale.
Oldham Athletic have teamed up with award-winning brewery Howard Town to line up four potential beers to be badged as Latics’ own.
They’re selecting six supporters for a tasting panel that will decide which of the superb ales will become associated with the club and what its name will be.
The tasting session takes place at Boundary Park at lunchtime on Monday, July 21. Ten local pubs have already been lined up to sell the beer, with 10p from each pint donated to the club’s community fund.
Latics chief executive Alan Hardy said: “I’d like to appeal to all fans to get behind this exciting new initiative and we’re fortunate enough to be able to give half-a-dozen fans the chance to get involved in the decision-making process.
Brewery owner Tony Hulme added: “Because of the sporting and youth connotations, the aim - in keeping with the campaign to drink responsibly - is that it will be a lower-strength beer.”
The four beers on the shortlist are Bleaklow, Longdendale Lights, Wren’s Nest and Dinting Arches.
