Funsters hoping for fine weather

HIGH Crompton has its fingers crossed for dry weather as it prepares for its annual fun weekend.
Because of heavy rain, last year’s event had to be postponed until September.
Once again, the high cost of insurance means there will be no donkeys, so the main attraction will be a fund-raising space-hopper derby.
The weekend is organised by High Crompton Christian Men’s Fellowship to raise money for good causes.
Proceedings begin with the High Crompton Beer Walk, which starts at 6.30pm on Saturday at the North Star pub, Rushcroft Road.
Sunday is the family fun day at St Mary’s School playing fields, off Rushcroft Road, from 1 to 4pm.
There will be children’s and adult space-hopper races, as well as rides, a bouncy castle, stalls and games.
One of the organisers, Harry Batey, said: “Hopefully, the weather will be kinder to us than last year.
“We ran the event in September, when it was reasonably successful, but it wasn’t as good as a lovely summer’s day in July.”
