Aid Call means carers can have a holiday too
Date published: 14 July 2008
WHILE some of us are packing suitcases ready to jet off to sunnier climes, a large percentage of Oldhamers are missing out on holidays.
New research by Age Concern has shown that 77 per cent of those questioned in a North-West survey don’t get the chance to take a break as they have elderly relatives who rely on their help.
Rather than forgo a trip away from home, Age Concern Oldham is urging families to consider the help of an emergency alarm such as Aid Call, which would enable an older relative to gain instant help at any time.
Daniel Gavin, from Age Concern Oldham, said: “This research only serves to highlight that many families with older relatives do not feel comfortable leaving them alone for long periods of time.
“Aid Call provides real peace of mind to both family members and the older relative, offering them the support to go about their normal lives.”
One touch of a button and the alarm connects to a dedicated response centre, staffed by trained operators 24-hours-a-day, every day of the year.
The alarm system operates a two-way speech-link to enable the person who has raised the alarm to talk to an operator within seconds.
The operator can then in turn contact their chosen keyholder — a friend, neighbour or relative — who will visit and offer assistance.
If there is no contact available, the emergency services will be called.
