Date published: 15 July 2008
AN 86-year-old Oldham man was left with severe bruising and facial injuries after a callous mugger targeted him for his bingo winnings.
The pensioner was set upon minutes after he left the Mecca Bingo Hall in King Street after winning a large amount of cash at around 9pm on Sunday.
The offender grabbed him from behind and pushed him to the ground, banging his head and hurting his elbow before making off with his money, leaving him extremely angry and shaken.
Police Constable, Rukhsana Kauser, from Oldham Volume Crime team, said “To target an elderly man in this way defies belief.
“Seconds before the attack he had left the bingo hall with his winnings. It looks as if someone has been opportunistic and spotted the man setting off home with his winnings.”
Anyone who witnessed the attack or has any information is asked to phone Greater Manchester Police on: 0161 872 5050.
