Here for the beer

HIGH Crompton’s wish for good weather was granted as the sun shined on its annual fun weekend.

Last year’s event had to be postponed because of a flooded field but, despite showers throughout last week, the sky stayed blue for the summer attraction.

Egyptian ladies, gangsters, Ghostbusters, Superheroes and Little Britain characters all gathered on Saturday night for the High Crompton Beer Walk.

The event was a fantastic success with 197 people taking part in 31 teams wearing imaginative fancy dress as they toured eight pubs to raise money for their chosen charities.

Sunday saw a family fun day at St Mary’s School playing fields with space hopper races, rides, a bouncy castle, stalls and games.

The weekend is organised by High Crompton Christian Men’s Fellowship, which raised £1,000 from the Beer Walk and around £2,500 from the fun day.

One of the organisers, Harry Batey, said: “It all went really well. After the week we had it was just fantastic to get the good weather. It even stayed nice as we were packing up.

“The number through the gate was slightly down but we didn’t do too bad and made a bit of money and everyone had a really good time.”

Warburtons was the main sponsor with space hopper races sponsored by Hedley Jackson, High Crompton Conservative Club, High Crompton Post Office, DH Lees and Son butchers, Lancashire Wallpaper and Paint, The Cladding Centre, Pyro Protection, Dawson Precision Engineering and Howarth Timber and Shaw Asda donated 140 Euro 2008 Footballs.
