Tom with the musical pupils
Tom Warren has proved age is no barrier to education after learning to play the banjo at the age of 75.
Tom’s much-loved hobby has now inspired members of his family to take up music lessons.
He dropped in to speak to children at Propps Hall School, Failsworth.
Mr Warren, who lives in Failsworth, was taught to play by Failsworth school music teacher Hazel Davies, who offers private lessons at home.
She explained: “At the end of each term I take my group out to play to our feeder schools.
“Tom is one of my students and he went along to speak to children about the different musical instruments including the guitar and the harp.
“He is really enthusiastic and it goes to show that you don’t have to be young to learn to play an instrument.
“The children really enjoyed listening to him play and talk. They even invited us back at Christmas.”
