THE cavalry has arrived in the fight to beat burglary in Oldham.
Mounted officers will be patrolling the borough as part of Operation Staple — looking for unlocked doors and windows — and started yesterday with a trot around Lees, Waterhead and Alexandra.
With a third of burglary happening because of doors and windows being left open and unlocked, officers hope the presence of the mounted police will make people take note and lock up.
Officers advise residents to lock all external doors and windows whether at home or not, get a burglar alarm fitted and remember to switch it on when you go out or go to bed.
Leave a light on when you go out or get some plug-in timer controls and use them to automatically switch some lights on at dusk.
Chief Insp Rob Tinsley said: “We are extremely pleased that the mounted unit is joining us in our fight against burglary.
“It provides a reassuring presence on the streets, and discourage people from taking part in illegal activity.”
