AN Oldham man is among a trio convicted for trying to pass off counterfeit money with a face value of nearly £7,000.
Ryan Denton (24) was given a nine-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, by Carlisle Crown Court after admitting possessing counterfeit currency. He was also ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work.
Vaughan Glennon (25) and Christian Johnson (26), both from Stretford, were jailed for 14 months after admitting the same offence.
Denton was said to have been less involved and had no previous convictions for dishonesty.
The men were arrested on the M6 at Southwaite after trying to spend some of their fake notes on confectionery at Burton-in-Kendal services.
The day before they had been arrested, but given bail by the police, after being caught doing the same thing at 14 shops in Llandudno.
When police searched their car they found forged notes with a total face value of £6,704.
