A man was assaulted in an alleyway near a busy mosque in Werneth.
The 39-year-old needed hospital treatment after he was attacked by two men near the Jamia Masid Mosque in Werneth Hall Road on Monday.
He went to the mosque around 5pm where he was involved in a brief row with a young man he believed had assaulted his son earlier.
Shortly afterwards, he left and was approached by a man who led him to an alleyway behind the mosque, where he was assaulted.
Det Con Alan Sanders of Oldham CID said: “There were a lot of people in and around the mosque at the time of the attack and I would appeal to anyone who knows who is responsible or who may have witnessed the incident to contact police.”
