Two fined over food waste dumping

A CHESHIRE restaurant manager who allowed bags of food waste to be dumped in Oldham has been fined.
Shah Kabir Hassan, of Burnley Lane, Chadderton, was caught after complaints about rubbish in an alley off Stirling Street, Westwood.
An officer from the environmental action team visited the area and saw several wheelie-bins with six black bin bags at the side.
One bag was torn open exposing rice and bones, and there were cabbage leaves, potato peelings and peeled fruit on the ground next to it.
Following inquiries, proceedings were taken against Hassan, who was the manager of the Great Eastern Nights Balti Restaurant, Middlewich.
Care
His employee, Rohul Amin of Stirling Street, Westwood, was also prosecuted.
Hassan was charged under section 34 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 for failing in his duty of care to ensure that waste arising from his premises was properly disposed of.
Rohul Amin was charged under section 33 of the Act in relation to illegally depositing the waste.
Both defendants pleaded guilty. Amin was fined £400 and ordered to pay £387.50 costs.
Hassan was fined £600 and ordered to pay £387.50 costs.
