RUGBY star Paul Sculthorpe went back to the classroom — to hand out awards in his old school’s annual prize giving assembly.
The Great Britain and St Helens Rugby League player returned to Watersheddings Primary School and was keen to see how it had changed.
He visited his old classroom and spent the morning with pupils who asked questions about his life as a professional rugby player and get his autograph.
In front of a packed audience of pupils, parents, staff and governors, he awarded prizes to pupils who had made great progress in their learning.
He also handed out certificates and medals to various groups and teams including footballers, cross country runners, cheerleaders, the pupil council, the eco team and the choir.
Head teacher Joanna Conway said: “What a fantastic role model for all the pupils to aspire to. A local lad who worked hard and persevered and is now making a career in what he enjoys doing.”
Paul told pupils it was nice to go back and commented that it was always a good, sporting school and encouraged them to keep working hard.
