Roughyeds head and shoulders above the rest

Attempting the world record at Boundary Park
OLDHAM Roughyeds could be world record holders — for a game of “heads, shoulders knees and toes.”
Despite getting the biggest crowd in National League 2 this year in last night’s game against Doncaster, the club sadly missed out on breaking the attendance record they set last season of 4,327 — falling short with 2,806 there. But the sporting Boundary Park crowd also took part in a bid to create the world’s largest and longest game of “heads, shoulders knees and toes”, which had to continue for a minimum of five minutes to get into the Guinness Book of Records.
Chief executive Chris Hamilton said the attempt looked good and he’s confidant of success — but it still has to be verified.
He said: “ We have to get the DVD off and have independent witness statements collected.”
Being the first professional men’s rugby league team to wear a pink kit didn’t prevent the Roughyeds from packing a punch and winning 36-16.
And it was also a good result for charity as no admission was charged for the televised match, with spectators instead donating to Dr Kershaw’s Hospice and the Genesis Appeal to raise thousands of pounds.
