CARTAX Radio Cars has become the first company in the borough to achieve the Cabsafe Gold Award.
In order to gain the award, the business, based in High Street, Lees, had to reach a number of standards, such as regular vehicle tests, ensuring drivers are trained in first aid and working in partnership with the council.
The Cabsafe scheme also supports the council’s objectives of safe vehicles, safe drivers and safe journeys.
Farooq Yousaf, managing director of Cartax Radio Cars, said: “It gives us great pleasure to receive the Cabsafe Gold Award. It proves that our service and standards to our customers are second to none.
“The majority of our drivers are now first-aid trained and have observed advanced driving techniques, while the drivers of our wheelchair accessible vehicles will shortly receive specialised training.
“We have worked closely with the licensing department to achieve this award and we are grateful for all the help they have given us.”
Councillor Mark Alcock, cabinet member for environment and infrastructure, said: “I congratulate this company for being the first to achieve this new award in Oldham.
“It takes a lot of effort to get a company up to this standard and it is truly deserved. I look forward to presenting all the other operating companies in Oldham with this award.”
