Roadworks bother will be worth it

MAJOR roadworks lasting six weeks will affect roads around one of Royton’s busiest junctions near Shaw Road End.
Work began today on the £220,000 scheme by Greenbooth Construction of Chadderton for resurfacing and the creation of new footways.
There will be temporary road closures in two phases, and side roads affected are Edge Lane Street, High Barn Street, Rochdale Road, Oldham Road, Heyside Lane and Salmon Fields.
For safety reasons the roads will be closed to through traffic, although pedestrians and residents will still have access.
The businesses fronting the works have been informed.
Oldham Council’s highways asset manager Sue Eachus said: “The resurfacing of Shaw Road is a necessity. For an A road it’s in a really poor state. It’s full of pot holes and patches.
“We want to ensure that we don’t have to come back time and time again to correct any further faults in the road so the time scale of the works will be well worth it in the long run”.
Oldham Council’s director for highways and operational services, Tony Noblet, added: “Shaw Road will be closed during the resurfacing of the carriageway for safety reasons.
“Traffic will be able to move into and out of Royton and Shaw using signed diversion route.”
