STAFF and pupils at Werneth Junior School celebrated their last assembly in style.
The Coppice Street school is set to merge with Werneth Infant School next door.
The two Victorian schools currently operate as two separate schools but are physically linked by a shared kitchen and car parks.
From September, it will become the Werneth Primary School and with the new name comes a new logo and uniform. Office manager Margaret Webbon said: “Everybody is excited about the new school and can’t wait.
“The last assembly celebrated life at the school from 1893-2008. Lots of parents attended and watched children perform ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ do a Bollywood dance and there was a lot of poetry.”
Some of the school’s famous past pupils include composer Sir William Walton and opera singer Dame Eva Turner.
The junior school is famous for its campanile-style tower which has been a landmark since it was built. Both schools have had major remodelling and rebuilding work over the years.
