It’s up to you to protect fields - council boss

Oldham’s playing fields need to be protected for all Oldhamers, the leader of Oldham Council, Councillor Howard Sykes has insisted.
And they have to be managed responsibly, he added.
He spoke out after damage to the New Barn playing fields caused by unauthorised car parking on the pitch earlier this month.
The club responsible for organising the event, Chaddy End FC, has been asked to pay for repairs, costing up to £1,500.
Councillor Sykes said: “The club responsible for this damage has publicly complained about the response from the council.
“However the agreement it signed clearly states its responsibilities and the penalties for misuse.
“This summer alone we have had more than 120 events booked in our parks and playing fields with 99 per cent of them going off without a hitch.
“Clubs and societies are responsible for ensuring that pitches and parks are left in a fit state so that others can benefit.
“The terms and conditions are very clear and it is important that organisers are aware of their responsibilities and the possible financial penalties they could be landed with.
“All pitches are in regular and heavy use. To ensure all users get what they have requested, they must act responsibly or accept the consequences.”
