A NEW appeal launched to build a conservatory at Oldham’s Victoria Breast Care Unit has been named by Chronicle reader Maureen Mills.
Her suggestion, “Link for Pink Appeal” will be printed as a logo on the top of all literature associated with the appeal.
And she collected a handful of prizes for her catchy idea when she was invited as guest of honour to the breast care unit at the Royal Oldham Hospital.
The Royton reader was picked out as winner in a joint competition run by the Chronicle and breast care unit staff.
Maureen won a VIP sponsors box ticket for two, including a meal, to an Oldham Rugby Club game of her choice, and six bottles of wine donated by Royton company 3663.
Chris Hamilton, rugby club chief executive, met prize-winner Maureen to hand over the VIP ticket, and urged Chronicle readers to dip into their pockets and support the appeal.
Fund raisers want to bring in £60,000 to build the conservatory to give patients more room and a better environment.
The appeal got off to a good start with more than £4,000 raised by a “pink promenade” around Hollingworth Lake, and a further £4,000 from a ladies luncheon and fashion show at the White Hart, Lydgate, organised by Elaine Norcross and Liz Norbury from Grasscroft.
Support has also been pledged by the captains of Manchester Golf Club, who have so far raised more than £1,500, and have a charity golf day planned for August 21.
Entries at £140 per team, including evening meal and entertainment, from Rita Bottomley on 0161-626 6935.
Heywood’s Biwater Treatment Ltd ran a fund-raising football tournament last Friday, and four physiotherapists from the Royal Oldham Hospital are taking part in a sponsored cycle marathon next month.
Jan Bolton, charitable fund-raising manager for Pennine Acute Hospitals Charity said she was delighted at the level of support for the appeal. To find out how you can support the appeal, contact Jan on 0161-908 4497 or email her at charity@pat.nhs.uk
