THE mill’s gutted interior
AN arson-plagued Waterhead mill could be demolished after it was set alight again yesterday morning.
Numerous arson attacks have left the unoccupied Spring Hey Mill in a precarious state and firefighters had to tackle the blaze from outside to avoid injury.
A 50-yard stretch of one lane of Huddersfield Road was cordoned off until mid-afternoon and the neighbouring Auto Glean Valets was closed as firefighters worked at making the area safe.A temporary walkway is likely to be in place for up to a week, until the remaining glass is moved from the windows.
The owner of the beleaguered mill is understood to be arranging for it to be demolished in the coming months.
Watch Commander Valeed Hussain, from Chadderton Fire Station, said: “The job will now be moved over to Oldham Council.”
