Working flat out on new homes
Date published: 21 July 2008
Work may have stopped at one private housing development in Cardinal Street, Oldham, but a nearby housing association scheme is still on track.
Work stopped on 58 flats called Cardinal Court, last month when the Oldham company Hillstone Developments went into administration.
However a second block of flats in Cardinal Street, being built for the Great Places Housing Group, is still going ahead.
Kevin Williams, assistant director for development at Great Places, said: “Our development is going ahead as planned and is due for completion in November.
It’s completely separate from the Hillstone scheme and there is no sharing of services.”
Manchester Methodist Housing Association, part of Great Places Housing Group, is working with Manchester developers Artisan on the 48 two-bedroom apartments on the former site of a Victorian school.
The new homes will be for affordable rent, outright sale and shared ownership.
They will be warmed through eco-friendly central heating via a 150-metre deep bore into the ground, tapping into the planet’s natural heat.
