By gum, it’s Yorkshire Day!

Saddleworth will again play host to Yorkshire Day celebrations in Uppermill this Sunday.

A wreath will be laid around the neck of the statue of renowned local poet Ammon Wrigley outside Saddleworth Museum at 11am.

Then there will be both music and a military touch with Dobcross Silver Band leading the grand parade to the King George V Playing Fields.

The parade will include the new Saddleworth detached flight ATC 2200 squadron as well as the Saddleworth branch of the British Legion and Saddleworth Parish Council members and officials.

On King George V Playing Fields the country fair will include specialist food stalls — cheeses and home-made ice cream washed down by Yorkshire tea.

The English Civil War Group from Dewsbury will display period costume, weaponry and wool spinning.

Country crafts will include dry stone walling and the children can expect to see a variety of farm animals on show, while there will also be a duck race and a bouncy castle.
