Rogue traders warned off
Date published: 22 July 2008
ROGUE traders who peddle counterfeit goods on markets and car boot sales are being targeted in a trading standards crackdown.
Dodgy dealers, who sell anything from pirated DVDs and counterfeit medicines to fake cigarettes, will be looking over their shoulder, as trading standards officers team up with the police to visit markets and car boot sales in the hunt for fake goods.
Counterfeit goods will be seized and anyone caught selling them could face up to 10 years in jail and an unlimited fine, with organisers of the markets also liable for prosecution.
Trading Standards teams were also urging consumers to be on their guard. Anyone who knows of someone selling counterfeit goods is asked to phone Consumer Direct in confidence on 08454 04 05 06.All calls are charged at the local rate.
