Referendum talks over c-charge package

COUNCIL leaders from across Greater Manchester will meet on Friday to discuss the possibility of a referendum over the future of local transport.
The local authority leaders will discuss how a referendum would fit in with the consultation process that is already underway for the £3billion Transport Innovation Fund.
Councillor Howard Sykes, leader of Oldham Council, said the key element for local residents will be the possibility of Metrolink trams running into the town centre. He added: “We welcome the proposal for a referendum in principle for residents to have their say on whether congestion charging is a price worth paying or not. But before Oldham signs up to a referendum we will need to see what people are being asked to vote on.”
