Hospice is going green

WORK is under way on a scheme to help Dr Kershaw’s Hospice go green.
The £250,000 project will see the Royton hospice get an efficient boiler and a new heating system for a building which is now double the size it was when the original heating system was installed.
The expansion means the boiler is stretched to its limits, and appeals manager Brian Hurst said the appeal needed to hit its target by mid-September so the bill could be paid and the new heating system switched on in time for winter.
The appeal was given a £37,356 boost from HealthSure to get it underway, leaving frantic fund-raisers a mere eight weeks to bring in the rest of the money. Mr Hurst explained that the heating system was badly outdated and was costing so much to run that there was no option but to replace it.
A new boiler is expected to slash at least a fifth off the annual fuel bill.
The next fundraising event is planned for Saturday, August 23 at the Bower Hotel, Chadderton.
Tickets for a Forties dinner dance, to sounds from the Suburban Swing Band, are £25, available from Dr Kershaw’s appeals office by telephoning 0161-624 9984.
