Fall in number of drink-drivers

GREATER Manchester Police’s latest drink-driving campaign has been hailed a huge success.
Chief Inspector Hayden Roberts, of GMP’s operational support unit, said: “GMP welcomes the fact that drivers are finally listening to police warnings on drink-driving, with the latest figures showing a reduction of 21 per cent.
“A total of 91,848 breath tests were administered between January 1 and June 30. Figures show that 775 fewer people tested positive for drink-driving compared to the same period last year.
“There has also been a further 27 per cent decrease in road collisions where people were been killed or seriously injured, and 8,812 fewer victims of road traffic accidents for this year, proving that our roads are much safer a year on.
“These results show that drivers are responding positively to the drink-driving safety messages we promote all year round.”
