HUNDREDS of local schoolchildren are still waiting for test results as a Government inquiry is launched to investigate the national delay.

Nationally, parents and teachers have been outraged as results for the Key Stage 2 and SATs have failed to arrive on the agreed deadline.

In Oldham, there are still nine primary schools and 14 secondary schools awaiting results.

The primary schools still in limbo are Lyndhurst, Royton Hall, Roundthorn, Propps Hall, Knowsley, Thorp, Stoneleigh, Hey with Zion and Coppice.

Secondary schools still awaiting results are the pupil referral unit, Counthill, Hathershaw, Kaskenmoor, South Chadderton, Royton and Crompton, Failsworth, Saddleworth, North Chadderton, Radclyffe, Blue Coat, Crompton house, St Augustine’s RC and Our Lady’s RC.

Janet Doherty, Oldham Council’s service director for children, young people and families, said: “Like many areas across the country, Oldham schools have seen an unacceptable delay in receiving their pupils’ Key Stage 2 and 3 SATs results from the National Assessment Agency (NAA).

“I would like to reassure parents, pupils and teachers that the council is actively monitoring the situation on a daily basis.

“We are in regular contact with the NAA to ensure that we are up to date on when schools will have their full results and to seek additional advice and support for schools.

“We know that pupils have worked very hard to prepare for these tests and that the results are an important update on their individual progress.

“We will continue to support schools in resolving any issues they may have around the marking and would encourage them to appeal by the extended September 10 deadline if they are unhappy with results.

“The council and schools welcome the independent inquiry into the reasons for the delay and hope that appropriate measures will be out in place to avoid such a situation happening again.”
