Bridge jump drama
Date published: 25 July 2008
A MAN threatened to throw himself off Mumps railway bridge this morning as commuters flooded into Oldham town centre.
With cars moving 30ft below him, the man walked along the bridge parapet and threatened to jump.
Police stopped all traffic causing a huge tailback, but for half-an-hour the man, aged about 30, refused to come down and hurled abuse at officers.
At about 8.15, however, he was persuaded to change his mind.
A witness said: “The man was dressed in blue track suit bottoms and a white vest which he later took off. He was walking along the very edge of the bridge.”
Police confirmed that a man was being questioned after threatening to jump from Mumps Bridge.
