£1m home comforts for the vulnerable

THE doors have opened on a new £1million state-of-the-art housing facility for people with mental health problems.

Residents of Mill View in Greenacres were officially welcomed to their new home with a glitzy opening ceremony, featuring speeches, a buffet and music.

The scheme, which was developed by the Manchester Methodist Housing Association (MMHA), part of the Great Places Housing Group, is the first of its kind in the borough, and is the base for the Vulnerable Adults Rehabilitation Support Service (VARSS) .

The development comprises eight self-contained one-bedroom flats and two fully accessible bungalows with a communal place for social get-togethers.

The project aims to help vulnerable adults access high quality services that promote recovery and independence.

Building work on the project took a year and was supported by an £834,000 grant from the Housing Corporation.

A spokesman from the Great Places Housing Group, said: “People have moved in from a Victorian mansion, Greenacres Lodge, which shares the same grounds.

“This replacement is built in a U-shape around a south-facing courtyard garden, creating a perfect setting for residents to focus on the intensive rehabilitation that will see them greet a new era in their lives.”
