Thugs jailed for race attack

Two thugs who subjected an Asian man to a racist beating have been jailed after a judge said they should be “thoroughly ashamed” of themselves.
Jamie Sharrocks (21), and 20-year old Javed Higman gave their victim a kicking as he went out to switch his car lights off.
Mohsin Khan — who was staying with his mother — was initially subjected to racist abuse as he emerged from a house in Oldham.
But although he tried to ignore the insults, he was jumped on and physically attacked as he got to the vehicle.
Minshull Street Crown Court was told Mr Khan was held down by the neck as he was repeatedly punched and kicked. He fell unconscious during the attack and had to be rescued by passers by.
Sharrocks, of Furness Avenue, Oldham, and Higman, of Yorkshire Street, Oldham denied racially aggravated assault but were convicted after a trial.
Higman pleaded guilty to an unrelated burglary at the home of the owner of the Alt Chippy in which £250 worth of damage was caused to French windows.
The court heard the victim of the burglary Denise Slater caught Higman and two accomplices red-handed in her garden after being told her home was being raided by customers.
Higman and his cronies fled the scene as Ms Slater shouted at them but his DNA was found on the French windows.
He also admitted breaching an anti social behaviour order by defying orders not to enter the Alt area.
Sharrocks was jailed for three years whilst Higman was given three and a half years in a Young Offender Institute. Both denied the attack on Mr Khan.
Passing sentence Judge Jeffrey Lewis told both men: “It is just disgraceful and appalling to think young men behave like that for no good reason other that you did not like him.
“You ought to be thoroughly ashamed of yourselves.”
