A THUG who ignored several chances to stay free has been jailed.
John Stewart (32), of Cowlishaw Lane, Shaw, had been given a suspended jail term and 150 hours’ community punishment last year for an assault at the Brook Tavern.
But he repeatedly failed to complete the order, citing personal reasons and a trip to India.
At Minshull Street Crown Court, Manchester, Judge Jeffrey Lewis jailed Stewart for four months after he was told he had breached his court order three times and only completing two thirds of the hours.
The court heard Stewart appeared before Judge Lewis in June last year after admitting assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
During the earlier hearing he was given a 12-month jail sentence suspended for two years and ordered to pay £500 compensation and £300 costs.
In addition to the community punishment order he was ordered to abide by a 9pm to 5am curfew.
