A COMMUNITY was still in shock today after a man died following a row with a neighbour over loud music.
Michael Moran (63), of Lancing Walk, Chadderton, received a blow to the head when he went to a neighbour’s house just before midnight on Saturday to ask if they would turn down the music.
Minutes later the retired fork-lift truck driver was found collapsed. He was taken to the Royal Oldham Hospital where he died.
Police have arrested a 27-year-old man on suspicion of manslaughter.
Initial post-mortem results showed the man died as a result of a blow to the head. However, further tests are to be carried out.
Last night, people were reluctant to speak but one neighbour said: “I didn’t see or hear anything.
“But my wife knew the victim. He was a married father-of-one who kept himself to himself. He had lived around here for more than 20 years and was retired”.
Another person said: “We had been out but when we came home there were police cars and vans along the street.
“We couldn’t believe it, because it’s usually a quiet estate.”
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to Lancing Walk following reports of a disturbance. A man has been arrested and remains in custody.”
