MOTORCYCLE enthusiasts Phil Caloe and Nicola Greenhalgh are planning to ride a staggering 3,300 miles through 30 counties in around 12 days.

A senior IT analyst at Pulse Home Products, Royton, Phil and his girlfriend are revving up to raise more than £5,000 for Cancer Research, a charity close to their hearts as a result of sufferers within their families.

Senior management at Pulse are sponsoring the trip by underwriting all the costs for Phil and Nicola, who live in Heaton, Bolton.

They will be embarking on their Long Way Round on Sunday.

Phil and Nicola have been putting in the extra hard mileage and training hard with regular work-outs in the gym and motorcycling trips to ensure everything runs smoothly.

“Support for the pair has been exceptional, with motorcycling friends up and down the country offering encouragement by riding alongside them in their respective areas, with some generously offering an overnight stop,” said Dianne Kenyon, the communications manager at Pulse, which has also promised a money donation to the charity.

Encouragement was also on hand when Phil and Nicola met actor Charlie Boorman at the NEC’s Motor Cycle Show.

Charlie rode alongside Ewan McGregor in the television series the “Long Way Round” and “Long Way Down” which raised funds for Unicef, and he passed on some helpful hints and tips.
