Pamphlet couple’s trial delayed

THE TRIAL of an Oldham couple accused of publishing a pamphlet encouraging terrorism has been put back until November.

Amjad Mahmood (29) and his wife Shella Roma (27), of Chester Street, Werneth, are accused of circulating a document telling others to go abroad to fight a jihad or holy war.

They allegedly designed and printed 200 leaflets as part of a terror propaganda campaign.

The couple, who have a baby, face a joint charge of distributing a terror publication between October 10 last year and January 31, an offence under Section 2 of the Terrorism Act 2006.

Mahmood has entered a not guilty plea and his trial was due to start yesterday at Manchester Crown Court.

But Roma previously fainted in the dock and there is concern over her fitness to enter a plea.

She will appear at the court on October 27 to resolve the matter, with a trial date for both, or only Mahmood, set for November 24.
