ALL kitted out . . . Ashley Ratchford (14) is spoilt for choice of what sport to play during the Olympic Challenge
WITH Olympic fever about to sweep the globe, youngsters in Oldham will be in a race against time to fit in a host of sporting opportunities.
Oldham Community Leisure (OCL) has put a vast Olympic programme together to banish summer holiday boredom and encourage greater sporting participation.
For two weeks children will be able to take part in a range of activities from badminton to athletics, hockey to water polo — and all for £1.
It starts on Monday and runs until August 22 — coinciding with the Beijing Olympics — with young Oldhamers able to enjoy glory with a prize-giving ceremony at the close.
There will be awards for the most outstanding performances and participants will also be put into a prize draw with bronze, silver and gold categories depending on how many times they turn up to an activity.
All activities need to be booked in advance to be sure of a place.
The opening day kicks off with football at Chapel Road from 11am to noon, followed by badminton at Oldham Sports Centre, 1 to 2pm, rowing and table tennis at Radclyffe, 4.30 to 5.30pm, mini polo at Oldham Sports Centre, 6 to 7pm, and athletics at Radclyffe, 6 to 8pm.
