Man is remanded over M62 deaths
Date published: 06 August 2008
A 31–year–old man was remanded in custody by magistrates accused of causing the death of a father and son as they headed for a family holiday.
Gary Proctor (47) and his son James (16), from Wakefield, died in hospital after their Fiat Punto collided with an Audi Quattro near Birch Services on the M62 on Sunday.
Father–of–four Imran Hussain, of Bradford, is said to have ploughed into the back of their vehicle as they travelled to Manchester Airport for a holiday to Florida.
Hussain is accused of causing their deaths by dangerous driving.
He is also charged with being more than twice over the legal drink–drive limit and making threats to kill against a female BP petrol station attendant in Leeds.
Mr Proctor’s wife and James’s mother, Catherine (44) was seriously injured in the crash. She is currently in a stable condition in hospital being treated for broken ribs and a broken arm.
The collision happened on the westbound carriageway just before 6am.
An application for bail was refused by the magistrates.
