Bulgaria: orphans need old clothes
Date published: 12 August 2008
SUMMER might have arrived but people are being urged to dig out the winter woollies to help orphans in Eastern Europe.
Chadderton couple Chris and Barry Waterworth of Moray Road have a holiday home in Sinapovo, Bulgaria.
They have run previous appeals for the village orphanage and school, and are hoping that Oldhamers will be as generous as ever this time.
The couple are asking people to donate scarves, hats, gloves, warm socks and underwear to be handed out at the Christmas party they organise for the children.
Chris explained: “We are looking for warm winter clothes for them because they just have so little and the winters are really bad yet they are very happy children.
“It’s tragic. Some of them have special needs and we just do what we can for them.
“At the moment we are helping them buy food. They get an allowance from the government but once that has gone they do not get a top-up.”
