The sound of Oldham in France . . . with the Oldham Choral Society
Oldham Choral Society joined forces with members of other singers from the North-West to form a festival choir at Latour de France, near Perpignan.
The choral director for the festival was John Bethel, who was the Oldham Choral Society Director of Music for 27 years.
Performances were given in several village churches in the Midi Pyrenees with extra events provided by four soloists.
Previous trips have been undertaken to New York, Finland, Prague and Malta as well as various venues in the UK and Ireland.
The coming season promises to be an exciting one as the society celebrates its 125th birthday.
Many social events are planned as well as several concerts.
The first choral event will be a weekend workshop based on the Verdi requiem at Chester Cathedral on September 12.
The workshop will be led by Oldham Choral Society augmented by singers from other choirs from the North- West.
The orchestra will be East Lancashire Sinfonia and the international line up of soloists is Rita Cullus, soprano; Emanuela Barazi, Mezzo; Peter Hoare, tenor; and Phil Joll, bass.
The musical director will be Nigel Wilkinson, who has just celebrated 10 years with the choir.
Tickets are available for £10 in advance from Cheshire Cathedral shop on 01244 311 586, or locally by calling 01706-644 217 or 01457-875 221. Tickets on the door will cost £12.
