TORYN MACDONALD is celebrating after getting the best marks among youngsters from five schools in for their bronze ukulele award and only six months after her first lesson.
The seven-year-old musician revelled in grabbing the ukulele she got as a Christmas present three years earlier and strumming alongside older brother Fraser (10) as he practised classical and rock guitar.
So her mother, Alison, signed her on for lessons with Greenfield music teacher Hazel Davies.
Alison, of Park Lane, Greenfield, explained: “Toryn felt left out when Fraser played, and she suddenly decided she wanted to play the ukulele.
“She started having lessons and is very keen and quite musical. She can’t wait to get home and pick it up, and practises every day playing chords and tunes.”
Toryn, who goes to St Mary’s Primary School, Greenfield, scored 96 per cent in the exam and was awarded a distinction.
Her delighted teacher said: “Usually this award is taken after playing at least 12 months so this was exceptional progress.”
