A UNIVERSITY student will run Mashal Radio next month with help from his father, broadcast journalist Mahboob Kakrvi.
Mohammed Ali (20) will manage the radio station, which is launched on September 2 and will broadcast throughout Ramadan.
The month-long transmission on 106.7FM runs for the ninth consecutive year and features live shows from 3am-1am, seven days a week.
It will operate from its base in Ross Street, Coppice, and will focus on a range of Islamic and community issues.
In previous years, Mr Kakrvi, who works for DM Digital on Sky, has helped with the running of the station and has now passed on his expertise to his son.
Mr Kakrvi has also written for national Urdu publications and has worked with Asian Sound Radio.
Mohammed, who is studying for a masters in business management and media at the Huddersfield University, said: “I am following in my father’s footsteps and will be running the station on my own for the first time.
“My father has been managing it for the past eight years and I have been helping him so I know what to do.”
Mohammed is also looking for volunteers to present programmes. If you are interested call Mr Kakrvi on 07754-365 485.
