LIANE ROBINSON and Tulliver check equipment for the TREC championships
SHAW rider Liane Robinson is going for gold at the weekend, when she takes part in the British championships of TREC — a new equestrian sport.
Liane and her mount, Tulliver, will face a stiff test which involves an all-day ride across varied terrain, negotiating natural obstacles and hazards.
The three-day contest, in Bakewell, starts tomorrow and Liane will be among 100 riders taking part.
TREC was introduced to Britain 10 years ago by the British Horse Society, and is based on the French discipline Le Trec.
It is designed to test horse and rider through a range of disciplines, rather than focusing on one. It combines skills in trail riding, jumping and flatwork, testing control and precision riding.
Liane will compete in the individual at level three — the second highest of four levels, and at which she and a fellow-rider from Dronfield came second in the pairs in last month’s Welsh Championships.
The event involved orienteering in the Brecon Beacon mountains, and competitors were faced with some very steep ascents and descents.
This weekend, she will tackle a timed 35km course, and obstacles up to 3ft high.
Liane (43) a mother of two, said: “I’m looking forward to the challenge of using different types of maps for the orienteering.
“It’s always enjoyable to ride in a different area of the country, across unfamiliar territory, and hopefully the weather will be good.”
