Mayor unfurls flag for independence day

MORE than 100 people were at the Pakistani Community Centre in Marlborough Street, Glodwick, yesterday to mark Pakistan Independence Day.
Centre manager Mohammed Ansar said: “The Mayor of Oldham, Councillor Shoab Akhtar, raised the flag and gave a short speech, after which food was served.”
Pakistan was granted independence from Britain in 1947.
