WE are the champions . . . the Oldham women’s football team celebrate their success with the men who were knocked out in the quarter final
Football win for Northern Monkeys
SOCCER-mad youngsters did the borough proud as Oldham hosted the seventh North-West After-Care Football Tournament.
Teams from all over the region descended on The Radclyffe School, Chadderton, to compete for the prestigious annual trophy.
Participants have all received some form of care from their local councils and the event is held to celebrate their successes and achievements.
The Oldham female team — Northern Monkeys — beat the Stockport Dialstonettes to win their competition and the men — Oldham United — were beaten in the quarter-finals by Rochdale.
Steve Slater, head of looked-after children at Oldham Council, said: “It was a great day and was well attended by all the boroughs.
“The female team deserve their moment of glory for all the hard work they put in. I’d like to thank Sport Development for making it such a well organised and spectacular event.
