New pool complex fit for anything

THE development of an exciting new gym and exercise facility at Uppermill baths got off to a flying start with deputy mayor Jim McArdle dropping in to take a look.

The £1.5m-scheme to improve exercise provision in the area will take place over two phases between now and March, with local construction firm Greenbooth taking on the project

Chief executive of Oldham community leisure Ian Kendall said: “This is a great opportunity for the people of Saddleworth to give their lifestyle a huge healthy boost, improve on their fitness levels and participate in some activity classes.”

Plans for the site include a complete overhaul to the pool and changing rooms, with the construction of a new fitness centre, which will include over 50 pieces of state-of-the art equipment.

Along with the fitness centre there will be an exercise studio offering an extensive class timetable.

Parking will be free to encourage those in both Uppermill and the local villages in Saddleworth to make use of the new and improved facilities.

The pool is now closed to allow refurbishment to take place and is scheduled to reopen on October 27, with the entire facility due to open in early March next year.

Oldham Community Leisure is offering the first 100 people to join the new gym a special ‘price for life’ membership, which means the fee will never go up.

Those interested in joining should visit the Oldham Community Leisure Ltd website at www.oclactive.co.uk and visit the Saddleworth pages or call 0161 621 3290.
