Cabbie victim of second attack

A CABBIE has been left counting the costs of a vicious assault — the second attack he has suffered.

Mushttaq Ahmed, of Glodwick, was punched in the face several times and had his vehicle damaged during the attack.

He was left needing treatment on two damaged teeth and will have to pay a medical bill as well as £300 worth of repairs to his taxi.

The attack happened as he went to pick up a fare from a pub on Rock Street, Oldham at 9pm on July 23.

He was forced to stop his vehicle as a youth, who appeared drunk, was standing in the middle of the road.

The teenager raised his fists and motioned that he wanted to fight but Mr Ahmed tried to calm him down.

The youth punched him several times through his open car window and kicked and punched the taxi before police arrived to arrest him.

Mr Ahmed said: “I tried to calm him down but he punched me in the face, knocking two of my teeth loose.” The assault was witnessed by several people and a teenager was arrested at the scene.

Mr Ahmed was attacked five years ago in Stalybridge when his nose was broken and he had three teeth knocked out.

He was initially concerned that no one has been charged in connection to the latest attack. A police spokesman said that a 16-year-old boy had been arrested on suspicion of common assault and bailed until September 22.
